Personal Background

Klaus Widmann's current research focuses on high energy density physics, in particular, the spectroscopic characterization of laser generated high energy density states. He received his Dipl.Ing. (M.Sc.) from the University of Technology in Graz, Austria, in 1992, for work on the utilization of holographic interferometry as a plasma diagnostics tool. He joined LLNL in 1993 as a graduate student investigating the X-ray emission of highly charged ions at the Electron Beam Ion Trap. In 1998 he received his Dr.techn. (Ph.D.) in Physics also from the TU Graz. His broad scientific interest reflects in a wide variety of research projects, from tracking single biomolecules, velocity measurements of shock driven systems, ultrafast diagnostics of femtosecond-laser generated warm dense matter, to temperature diagnostics of high-energy laser-generated plasmas.
