Nenad Velisavljevic joined LLNL in March of 2019 as a staff scientist in the Condensed Matter Physics Section and the Director for High Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT), NNSA funded high pressure research user facility located within the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory. Nenad is responsible for HPCAT leadership, planning, implementing strategic priorities of the HPCAT Executive Council, and addressing the mission needs of the stakeholders, which consists of LLNL-LANL-SNL, NNSA-Stockpile Stewardship Academic Program University partners, and a large multidisciplinary high-pressure research international user community.

Nenad has a broad range of experience in high-pressure science and leadership roles. Prior to joining LLNL he has served in a range of roles supporting NNSA missions at LANL, including: serving as LANL PI for joint LANL-SNL actinide and other experiments on SNL Z-machine and reporting to the DMP-C2, C1, Global Security, and other program managers; serving as a deputy group leader, team leader, staff member, and post-doctoral fellow, all within the Shock and Detonation Physics Group. Prior to joining LANL, Nenad obtained his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics with focus on high-pressure research with Professor Yogesh K. Vohra at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Over the course of his career, Nenad has performed experiments at various x-ray user facilities, including HPCAT/APS/ANL, NSLS/BNL, CHESS/Cornell and ECB/Petra-III/DESY, and he has authored numerous publications in the field of high-pressure science.
