Research Interests

Erik Swanberg first started working at LLNL as a graduate student and is now a nuclear scientist in the Nuclear & Particle Physics group. Swanberg’s previous work includes deploying and improving atmospheric radiation monitors for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, performing fundamental nuclear physics research, advancing the state of the art in radiation detectors, including scintillators, semiconductors, long range alpha detection, and superconducting tunnel junctions. His other research interests include developing new radiation detection systems and radiation detector materials (scintillators, semiconductors, and superconductors) for homeland security and other purposes, with a focus on detector system development. These interests include all aspects of system design, from ASICs and electronics to algorithms and GUIs.
