Background
Dr. Mark Sutton is an established leader in operations with over 25 years of experience in applying science and technology to projects of national mission relevance. Dr. Sutton currently serves as a member of the Engineering Directorate senior management team at LLNL. In his current role as Deputy Associate Director for Operations, he is responsible for providing directorate-level support for strategic initiatives, major operational activities and multi-directorate operational interactions across a broad spectrum of operational, business, infrastructure, safety and security issues.
Research Interests
Prior to 2020, Dr. Sutton held multiple operational, scientific and leadership roles in Engineering, PLS and Global Security Directorates including Associate Deputy Associate Director for Operations, Deputy Division Leader for Operations, Program Leader, Authorizing Individual and Principal Investigator. His research in urban recovery following chemical, biological or nuclear terrorism and nuclear waste disposal has resulted in the publication of peer-reviewed articles, technical reports and conference presentations. Sponsors of Mark’s research include LLNL LDRD, DOE (NA, NE, EM), EPA (ORD), DHS (S&T), DOD (DTRA), British Nuclear Fuels Ltd (BNFL), Canadian Office of Nuclear Waste Management Organization, Environment Canada, CBI Polymer and Stanford Research Institute.
