Bill Stygar is a member of the Electromagnetics Section in the National Security Engineering Division at LLNL, and was recently promoted to Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. Bill joined LLNL in 2018 after a 36-year career in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Bill was the recipient of the IEEE Erwin Marx Award in 2015 in recognition of his “contributions to the physics and technology of superpower pulsed-power accelerators, and the realization of the Z and refurbished Z accelerators as precision scientific instruments.” He has coauthored over 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, has received 12 Defense Programs Awards of Excellence from the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration, and is listed as a co-inventor on 6 U.S. Patents. Bill has an A.B-Honors degree in Physics from the University of Chicago, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bill is a member of the IEEE and lifetime member of the APS.
