Michell Marufu is a Staff Research Scientist in the Materials Science Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She earned a master’s degree in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Oregon where she specialized in the synthesis and processing of conductive polymers, demonstrating their potential applications in light-emitting diodes and electronics. Currently, her research focuses on developing and scaling up innovative technologies for the high efficiency conversion of CO2 to ethylene and on designing advanced polymer materials for electrochemical applications. She aims to establish best-practice engineering controls and protocols for CO2-to-ethylene conversion. She also leverages 3-D printing techniques to investigate solid polymer electrolytes, as well as the alkaline stability and degradation of Anion Exchange Membranes (AEMs).
