Bert Jorgensen is the Project Engineer for the W80-4 Life Extension Program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. This position includes responsibilities as Associate Division Leader in Defense Technologies Engineering Division and Associate Program Director for Weapons Technologies and Engineering. He was previously the Deputy Program Manager for the W80-4 from July 2015 to May 2022. Prior to this, Dr. Jorgensen was a Special Science Advisor on assignment to the U.S. Strategic Command, Capabilities and Resource Integration Directorate, and has had prior detail assignments on the staff of Senator Jon Kyl, where he provided advice on stockpile programs related to the ratification of the New START treaty, and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters. He has also been the LLNL system manager for the W80, W84 and W87 warheads, and was the lead LLNL engineer for certification of the W87 on Minuteman III. Dr. Jorgensen joined LLNL in 1996 as an Engineering Analyst, specializing in shock and modal analysis.
