Michael is a recently converted staff scientist, following his Postdoctoral research role here at the lab. Dr. Hennessey was awarded his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2020 by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he worked on developing and implementing novel numerical methods for both reactive and nonreactive systems of compressible flow. He began his postdoctoral research at LLNL in the fall of 2020 where he has worked mainly in the field of optimization for HE systems. Michael’s work is divided between HE equation of state optimization gradient-free reaction-rate optimization for HE materials modeled using Cheetah and experimental design optimization for investigating methods of modifying explosively generated surface instabilities in metal.
