Cindy Gonzales is Group Leader of the Intelligent Detection, Exploitation, and Analysis (iDEA) Group in Global Security Computing Applications Division. Cindy has been at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory since 2016. She has diverse experience within Computing and has worked on multiple data science projects to date. She holds an M.S. in Data Science from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Statistics with a minor in Psychology from California State University, East Bay. She completed both of her degrees while working full-time at the Lab by utilizing the Education Assistance Program. She currently works as a Principal Investigator and Data Scientist whose research interests include using machine learning for automatic target recognition and detection in unconventional types of imagery including overhead imagery, radar data, and medical imagery. In addition to her technical work, she also serves as Co-Director for the Data Science Challenge, a two-week intensive program that aims to bring university students a real-world data science problem to solve. Cindy is also committed to fostering an inclusive culture institutionally and more broadly in STEM, formalized by earning a certificate from Cornell University in Diversity and Inclusion in 2022. In her personal time, she enjoys long-distance running and is the proud mother of two young children.
