Alyson Fox is a computational mathematician at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where she contributes to the Mathematical Algorithms and Computing group within the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC). Her research focuses on variable precision computing to enhance the efficiency of data representation and compression for simulation data and on developing advanced numerical algorithms. Key areas of her expertise include iterative solvers for linear systems and eigenvalue problems, asynchronous iterative methods, lossy compression, floating-point error analysis, graph algorithms, and innovations in collaborative autonomy critical infrastructure.
Alyson joined CASC in August 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher under the mentorship of Jeff Hittinger. She transitioned to a staff scientist role in October 2018, where she continues to push the boundaries of applied mathematics in high-performance computing environments. Alyson earned her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017, where she worked under the guidance of Tom Manteuffel and Geoff Sanders. Additionally, she holds a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics (2015) from the same institution and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics and a minor in Business from Loyola University Maryland (2012).
Her work continues to influence the development of robust and efficient computational methods, particularly in environments where precision and resilience are critical.
