Kurt joined the PLS ADO in 2016 as the Directorate Assurance Manager and Directorate Security Officer.  He has devoted his 30 plus year career to promoting, enhancing, and protecting worker health and safety, as an industrial hygienist and an environment safety and health management professional. 

As the PLS Assurance Manager, he is responsible for assessing the Directorate’s efforts in meeting its internal and external ES&H and Security obligations, and for reporting to DOE issues that are discovered through such assessments or incidents.  This work also includes determining the causes of issues and developing corrective actions to resolve them.

Kurt is also a licensed California attorney, and he has leveraged that skill set in helping PLS, and LLNL generally, to develop policy to address worker safety and health legal obligations. Before coming to LLNL in 2001, Kurt’s experience included leading and managing Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs for government, university, and private sector organizations.
