I am an experimentalist with a background in physical chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials characterization. My research prior to LLNL focused on thermal behavior and thermochemistry of nanomaterials, porous materials, and geological systems.

Current Research Interests

  • Aging science, chemical degradation, and chemical compatibility of materials (energetic materials, polymers, and metals)
  • Equilibria and mixing in multi-phase systems (gas-liquid, gas-solid, liquid-liquid, etc.) including experimental methodologies and predictive techniques
  • Methods and modeling in chemical reaction kinetics and mechanisms especially thermally induced decomposition
  • Calorimetry and thermochemistry for thermodynamic stability and reaction characterization
  • Gas/liquid "probe-based" characterization methods, including dynamic and static sorption/desorption, contact angle, and inverse gas chromatography
  • Adhesion science, surface energetics, and reactions at interfaces
