I began my technical journey in the mid-1990s at San Joaquin Delta College, earning certificates in Electronics and Electrical Technology. My early career included roles as an electronics technician at Fermentation Engineering and an electrical apprentice at Golds Electric. I completed my Associate Science Degree in Technical Education and went on to earn a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute and a B.S. in Business Management and Leadership from Charter Oak State College. My pursuit of knowledge continued with an M.S. in Instructional Technology from Ashford University and a graduate certificate in Leadership from Northeastern University.
In the late 1990s, I joined LLNL as a Target Diagnostics Technician at the NOVA Laser Facility, and worked for the DOE Contractor Johnson Controls, when NOVA was decommissioned and I was laid off I was hired by Bechtel Nevada, the DOE Contractor that manages the Nevada Test Site, now called the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). I ended up spending 19 1/2 years with NNSS. There, I transitioned from technical roles to management, serving as an electro-optics technician, electronics engineer, Calibration and Applied Analytics Manager, and Diagnostics Project Manager for subcritical experiments.
Returning to LLNL in 2018, I took on the role of Work Planning & Control Engineer in Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), later becoming the Training Integration Manager for ES&H Work Planning & Control FAM. After a few years serving within ES&H I applied for a position within DTED and was hired as the Deputy Quality Assurance Manager for the Weapons Technology and Engineering Division, ensuring compliance with DOE quality requirements in weapon research and development. I am currently serving as the “Acting” Manager.
My time at NNSS was transformative, shaping my transition from technical to management roles. Each new challenge has been an opportunity for growth, and I now find fulfillment in my current role, contributing to national security. I approach my work week by week, motivated by the chance to make a positive impact and support my team.
After nearly three decades in the DOE, I am grateful for the rewarding experiences and support I've received. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, STEM outreach, bass fishing, barbecuing with family, and teaching martial arts. I also participate in employee networking groups, like the soccer and Martial Arts ERGs, which allow me to connect with colleagues and recharge.
