Peter Lindstrom is a computer scientist and project leader in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC).  His research interests include data compression, geometric modeling and processing, scientific visualization, and high-performance computing.

Peter earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2000 and holds B.S. degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics from Elon University.  He joined LLNL in 2000 and is currently a member of CASC's Data Science and Analytics group, where he leads the zfp data compression effort as part of the DOE Exascale Computing Project.  Peter was the Editor in Chief of Graphical Models from 2012-2015 and previously served on the Editorial Board of IEEE TVCG and as Papers Co-Chair for IEEE VIS 2019 and 2020.  He currently serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in High-Performance Computing and is a member of the Next Generation Arithmetic Working Group developing the posit standard.
