Tamara is a computer scientist in the Global Security Computing Applications Division (GS-CAD) of the Computation Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The majority of her time is now spent on R&D related to distributed file systems and cyber security. Tamara also continues to extend her research on interface semantics as her contribution to Plug and Play Supercomputing and the Components Project in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC).
Tamara has worked in the field of Computer Science for more than 20 years in a variety of domains, including education and business, conflict simulation, environmental databases, mass hierarchical storage systems (e.g., High Performance Storage System ( HPSS)), laser control systems (i.e., National Ignition Facility), and foreign animal disease modeling. She holds several degrees in Computer Science; has been an active participant in various organizational activities; and a recipient of several professional awards.
Tamara completed her Ph.D. in computer Science from the University of California Davis in 2008. Her dissertation is entitled “Performance-Driven Interface Contract Enforcement for Scientific Components”. Doctoral committee members were professors: Premkumar Devanbu (Advisor), Raju Pandey, and Zhaojun Bai. She earned her Masters degree in Computer Science from the California State University, Sacramento. Tamara’s undergraduate degree, in Computer Science and Mathematics, was earned from the California State University, Stanislaus, where she graduated magna cum laude.
Tamara has served on several committees and participated in leadership activities. For example, she was lead co-chair for the Second CAR Research and Technology Showcase (2007) and co-chair for the Inaugural CAR Research and Technology Showcase (2005). Tamara also served as Acting Group Leader for the Software Engineering group in the Center for Applications Development and Software Engineering (CADSE) during the 2002 evaluation, ranking, and salary process (shortly after the Computation Directorate reorganization). She participated in the Computation Directorate's Emerging Leaders Program pilot in 2001-2002. From 1998 to 2001, Tamara also served as a Computation Directorate Ombuds.
Tamara’s awards have been both internal and external. In addition to multiple Computation Directorate Distinguished Achievement Awards, Tamara was co-recipient of two R&D 100 team awards. The first award was for HPSS (1997) and the second for Babel (2006).
